We make art because we like art!

This puzzle is a 3 dimensional counterpart of the pentomino (or if you wish the tangram). A cube 3 x 3 x 3 is divided to 7 pieces. The 6 of them consist of 4 basic cubes, the last one consist of 3 cubes. The following photo shows all of the pieces.

Podobnie jak z pentomina lub tangramu, z części tej łamigłówki można ułożyć wiele kształtów.
Likewise pentomino or tangram, the pieces of soma cube can be arranged into several different configurations.

Można też ułożyć sześcian i włożyć go do pudełka.
It is also possible to arrange all the pieces into a cube and put it into a box.

Łamigłówkę soma cube zaprojektował w 1936 r. duński poeta i twórca łamigłek Piet Hein. Autorem wersji origami jest Steve Biddle. Została ona zaczerpnięta z książki: Steve and Megumi Biddle, The New Origami, St. Martin's Press, New York, 1993, ISBN 0-312-08037-9.

Łamigłówka została zrobiona z tradycyjnego modułu Sonobe. Pudełko zostało zaprojektowane przez Tomoko Fuse.
The model is built of classic Sonobe module. The box is designed by Tomoko Fuse.

Inny układ klocków został opisany przez polskiego matematyka Hugona Steinhausa w "Kalejdoskopie matematycznym" (Hugo Steinhaus, Kaleidoskop matematyczny, Wydawnictwa Szkolne i Pedagogiczne, Warszawa 1989, ISBN 83-02-02326-4). Sześcian został podzielony na 6 części. 3 części składają się z 4 sześcianów podstawowych, pozostałe 3 części z 5 sześcianów. Na poniższej fotografii pokazane są wszystkie części.
Different configuration of pieces was described by Polish mathematician Hugo Steinhaus in his Mathematical Caleidoscope (Oxford University Press, New York, 1969) The cube was divided into 6 pieces. The first 3 of them consist of 4 cubes, the other 3 consist of 5 cubes. The following photo shows all of the pieces.

A tak wygląda sześcian po złożeniu.
And here you can see completed puzzle.
